Notice pursuant to Article 4(1)(a) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2408/92 on access for Community air carriers to intra-Community air routes, concerning the operation of scheduled air services on certain domestic routes (Text with EEA relevance) Official Journal C 255 , 24/10/2003 P. 0003 - 0003 Notice pursuant to Article 4(1)(a) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2408/92 on access for Community air carriers to intra-Community air routes, concerning the operation of scheduled air services on certain domestic routes (2003/C 255/03) (Text with EEA relevance) Pursuant to Article 4(1)(a) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2408/92 of 23 July 1992 on access for Community air carriers to intra-Community air routes, the Swedish Government decided on 17 October 2002 to impose a public service obligation in respect of scheduled air services operated from 26 October 2003 on the following routes (and vice versa):

Kiruna-Luleå, Kiruna-Umeå, Gällivare-Luleå, Gällivare-Umeå and Luleå-Umeå. The imposition of the above public service obligation was published in the Official Journal of the European Communities C 17 of 24 January 2003. In the context of its decision to impose a public service obligation, the Government also instructed the National Public Transport Agency (Rikstrafiken) to invite tenders for aviation services on the routes in question in the event that commercial services were not set up. On 15 May 2003 the Government instructed the National Public Transport Agency to discontinue the ongoing tender procedure for these routes.

As the tender procedure would not be completed, the Government at the same time decided to remove the public service obligation since it would be an impediment to commercial initiatives on the routes concerned.
